Important: You can only buy the Avios on the French website. If geolocation takes you to your home country outside of France, you won’t see the offer.
More details about the process and how you can avoid the geolocation redirection are in my earlier post here.
As usual, without a specific redemption in mind it’s not recommended to buy miles.
Good redemption opportunities with low surcharges are for example short haul flights within Europe on BA or short and medium haul in Asia with partner airlines.
Recently I booked return premium economy tickets between Bangkok andTokyo Haneda on JAL for 50,000 Avios and 81,53€ total in taxes and surcharges.
To get exactly 50,000 Avios you could buy 2 x 20,000, 1x 4,000 and 3x 2,000 Packages for 566€. With surcharges and taxes your total would be 647,53 €.
The cheapest offer for JAL Premium Economy for that route in the next few months is 898€. Voila, a save of 250€. Even when you consider the lost miles you would get on a paid ticket, this is a good deal.
Especially when you factor in the added flexibility you get with a BA redemption ticket.
